Time zone support

When you first load your Fastmail calendar, we will prompt you with a suggested time zone. This will be the time zone that is set on your device.

If you have the accurate local time and time zone set in your computer's preferences, this should be reflected in the Fastmail web interface as well.

How to change your time zone

You can change your time zone by opening your Fastmail calendar and clicking the button that shows your current time zone. A dropdown list will appear. You'll see recent time zones you've used at the top of the dropdown list. You can select your desired time zone from the list, or you can start typing in a location or time zone name and matching options will be displayed in the list.

Please note that what you search or select may not always match what is displayed as the time zone location. The location displayed will be the most definitive location for the time zone. For example, if you were to select Philadelphia, PA, USA (EST) as your time zone, this will be displayed as New York, NY, USA (EST).

Multiple time zone support

If you frequently need to create calendar events in different time zones, you can enable multiple time zone support by following these steps:

  1. Go to Settings → Calendars → Calendar options.
  2. Find the Calendar display section.
  3. Click the button next to Enable multiple time zone support.

This will add a button that allows you to quickly switch between time zones when creating or editing an event.

Floating time

There is one special time zone called "floating time." When an event's time zone is set to floating time, it will always occur at the same start time, regardless of which time zone you view it in.

If you view your calendar in floating time, each event will be displayed as though it were being viewed in the time zone for that event.

Troubleshooting wrong timestamps

If your emails display timestamps which are drastically different than the times they were sent, there are a few things to check in order to work out where the problem is occurring.

  1. Double check that your computer is set to the correct time and timezone. Timestamps are generally based on the time and timezone set on your machine.
  2. To see correct timestamps on your emails while using Firefox, disable Fingerprinting Protection. This feature spoofs the timezone, which changes the times displayed on emails. To disable it, visit about:config and search privacy.resistFingerprinting
  3. Try disabling any VPNs or browser extensions you may currently be using.
