How to set up your Android phone

Did you know: FastMail has an excellent Android app which many of our users prefer to other mail apps. See our mobile app help for more details.

Set up your email

To set up the native Android Email app:

  1. Open the Email app. If you don't already have an account set up, the Account setup dialog should appear. Otherwise, open the app's menu, then go to Settings and tap Add Account.

  2. Fill in your email address and password:

    • Email address: Your full FastMail username, including the domain.
    • Password: Your FastMail password.

    Tap Next.

  3. Tap IMAP.

  4. Change the server, port and security type for your incoming mail:

    • Server:
    • Port: 993
    • Security type: SSL/TLS
    • IMAP path prefix: INBOX This setting may not appear on older Android phones. If you don't see it, don't worry, it'll still work fine.

Your screen should look like this:

    Tap Next.

  5. Change the security type for your outgoing mail:

    • Security type: STARTTLS

Your screen should look like this:

    Tap Next.

  6. If you like, change the Inbox checking frequency (or leave it set to the default every 15 minutes), then tap Next.
  7. Fill in your name:

    • Your name: The name people will see on the email you send.

    Tap Next.

Your FastMail account is now ready to use.

Set up your calendar

Android does not support CalDAV natively, however you can easily add support by installing a CalDAV sync adapter. We have tested and recommend CalDAV-Sync, which is approximately $3. Once you have added your account in CalDAV-Sync, you can use the native Android calendar or any other calendar app and the changes will sync with FastMail.
