Rob helped found Fastmail in 1999 and continues to be a core developer on it to this day. With 20 years of email experience, he has substantial expertise in email technology, deliverability, and anti-abuse. He graduated from the University of Melbourne with degrees in computer science and electrical engineering.
Bron is a technologist with over 20 years of experience building email products who lives in Melbourne, Australia with his wife and two children. He joined Fastmail in 2004 as a developer and sysadmin, has served on the board of Fastmail since 2013, and became CEO in 2017. Bron is a member of the open-source Cyrus email server board and co-chair of the JMAP and EXTRA working groups at the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). He is the primary author of the IMAP extension for object identifiers (RFC8474). Bron holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Tasmania. He frequently speaks around the world about open standards, Cyrus, email privacy and security, and Fastmail products and values. Bron’s hobbies include choral singing and teaching group fitness classes.
Richard is the second longest-serving member of the Fastmail team. In 2013, he became a director, having been part of the core development team since 2003. Building finance and accounting software systems for Fastmail is his specialty. Richard engineered the billing and payment system that records and processes email services sold. He leads this area and continues to refine other aspects of our product.
Since 2004, Neil has been the primary user experience designer for Fastmail. In 2013, he became a company director, and later had a primary role in the development of Topicbox. He is the author of several open-source JavaScript libraries, including the popular Squire rich text editor. Neil is the editor of the specification for JMAP, the new open email, calendar, and contacts synchronisation protocol, and is an active contributor in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). He has a master’s degree from Cambridge University.
As COO, Helen provides overall business strategy and product direction for Fastmail and its suite of products. Before Fastmail, she ran her company, Pobox, an email forwarding service, for 20 years before Fastmail acquired it in 2015. Helen graduated from the Wharton School of Business and currently serves on several nonprofit boards in the Philadelphia area.
As CTO, Rik oversees Fastmail’s technical team and is a Perl software developer. Before Fastmail, he led technical development for over a decade at Pobox, which was acquired by Fastmail in 2015. He ran the core Perl 5 programming language team for five years, during which time, in addition to his many technical duties, he established the Standards of Conduct for the development community. He holds a degree from Boston University in philosophy and religion. Rik is a noted speaker on Perl, open source, and email, and regularly presents at Perl conferences around the world.
Nicola serves as Fastmail’s Chief of Staff, providing executive-level oversight for cross-functional teams and projects. Her professional background spans the full range of technical experience as she has been a programmer, project manager, technical writer, and an open source community manager. Nicola is an organizer of Write The Docs Australia, an annual conference for technical writers. She frequently speaks about communications, customer interactions, and how teams share information. Nicola is passionate about literacy for all ages and works part time at her kids’ school library. She has a degree in computer science from Monash University.
