How to get email for your own domain

Having your own domain name takes your business from hobby to professional. It gives you true email independence. With Fastmail, you can get an @fastmail.com address, but you can also just as easily set up email @yourdomain.

When you own your own domain, you can set up as many extra addresses as you need — either individually, or by adding a catch-all alias to receive anything @yourdomain.

Where to buy a domain

If you don’t yet own a domain, the first step is to buy it. Domains can be purchased through a domain registrar. A domain registrar is a company that manages the purchase and ownership of domain names on the Internet.

You can also register a domain through Fastmail — this is available to paid customers who have been with us for more than 7 days. If you buy your domain through Fastmail, we’ll get it all set up to work immediately — no additional steps required! Just go to Settings → Domains, click Add or buy domain, and follow the instructions.

How to set up email for your domain

If you already own a domain, you can easily get email for it by adding it to your Fastmail account.

Don’t already have a Fastmail account? You can sign up using your domain directly. This will set up your first user at your domain, and you can easily add more users or aliases (extra addresses) later. You’ll still need to make a few changes at the registrar where you bought your domain but don’t worry, we’ll guide you through that.

If you already have a Fastmail account, you can add your domain by going to Settings → Domains, clicking Add or buy domain, and following the instructions. Again, we’ll step you through the changes you need to make at your registrar for everything to work.

With Fastmail, you’re not just limited to one domain either. You can add up to 100 domains to your account at no extra cost, so you can manage all of your email in one place.
