New Mobile Update Helps Keep You Connected on Your Phone and Tablet

It’s easy to find your way around Fastmail apps and to set up notifications for your priority folders with a custom sound.

Our mobile apps have been updated to a sharper new version to help you do your best work wherever you go. New app versions will be available in the Apple App Store and Google Play in the next few weeks.

In the next several weeks, you’ll see some changes when using Fastmail on your mobile web browser too.

In building this version, we thought a lot about what would help you get more done and took into account common user requests. We know you value consistent, reliable service and time savers for your daily use. Our updates will enhance your ability to get around quickly and stay on top of your messages, without forcing you to change your workflow.

Getting where you want to go

Fastmail offers more than just email. Our calendars and contacts work in harmony with your inbox. Now in mobile, you can toggle between mail, calendars, and contacts from a new bottom navigation bar.

You’ll also find an action bar at the bottom of each piece of mail. When viewing a message, you can take actions to report spam, delete or archive messages, or move them into a folder. You can also swipe the action bar right to bring back the main navigation.

Tablet users will also experience pinch to zoom in messages along with a touch-friendly interface that scales from a narrow iPad split view all the way up to a full 12.9” screen.

New app notification options

Our devices send many notifications that compete for our attention, but now you’ll have control to make each alert worthwhile. Only be notified of the mail you want to read with priority folder notifications. Choose the folders you’d like to receive app notifications from in mobile under Settings>Notifications and no longer be burdened by incidental emails while on the go. (Go to Settings>Rules to create Rules to file new mail directly to a folder—a powerful organizational feature).

While sound options have always been available for Android users, choices for audio notifications are now included in the iOS app too. Our new sounds are light, lively and brisk—just like the feeling of sending off work and checking items off your to-do list. We’ve selected eight email-appropriate options that you can quickly associate to new mail, no matter which one you pick.

More good things to come

Beyond these immediately useful improvements, we’ve also updated our platform which will support future changes, including many of the features that you have been requesting.

We can’t wait for you to explore these mobile updates, and as always, we appreciate your feedback. If you notice any performance problems or unusual behavior, please contact us.

If you have not yet experienced Fastmail’s mobile app, now is the best time to download it to get these enhancements as they are available. Find it on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
